When people ask what I do, I usually say I'm an "Internet Consultant." The long-winded version is that I'm president of Thinkofit, a consulting firm working mainly in the area of online conferencing. More generally, I'm a Tool Builder, Software Designer, Writer, Conceptual Thinker, and Creative Problem Solver. I'm pretty good at all those things*.
I am board chair of E-Democracy, a nonprofit organization that uses Internet technology to engage citizens in local political discussions. During the 1990's I was Executive Director of Twin Cities Free-Net, an online community designed to support the neighborhoods of the Minneapolis - St. Paul metro area.
In more distant past lives, I co-founded a couple of small companies that no longer exist and which I'm sure you've never heard of. Before that, I was a PLATO software developer, first at the Computer-based Education Research Lab at the University of Illinois in Urbana (1972-77), then at Control Data Corp. in Minneapolis (1977-82).
If you want more, there's always my resume.
* There are plenty of other things I wish I were better at. See my list under "Everything Else."

My son Ben, born in 1990, is an active, sunny guy, interested in art and music.
My life partner, Cyndie DeRidder, is a clinical social worker and teaches classes in Mindfulness & Depression.
I have a rather useless degree in psychology (University of Illinois, 1977). I've also studied sound technology & composition, jazz piano, and Aikido, produced a few radio shows for KFAI, and performed magic and Monty Python skits. (Not that I'm particularly good at any of those things.)

I'm a founding member of the Noodleman Book Club. Here's a list of good stuff I've been reading lately. I'm a member of Minneapolis Friends Meeting and serve on the board of Friends for a Non-Violent World. I'm actively involved at Watershed High School. Now and then I do some art or some photography or cartoons. |

P.S. People often misspell my name as David Wooley, David Woolly, David Wooly, or David Wolley, which doesn't really bother me, but since it makes it hard to find me in Google, I thought I'd mention it.
